‘Success is in the detail’ and the detail here is that Herringbone has recently brought made-to-measure services to their stores, with made-to-measure shirting available nationally and made-to-measure suiting available by appointment in selected stores across the country – Brisbane’s QueensPlaza included.

Men can now experience the highest level of personalised tailoring at Herringbone, where a combination of luxury, timeless style and superior quality is present in all their shirting and suiting. As clients of their new made-to-measure service, you are precisely fitted by trained tailors and presented with a variety of options to select detail and style, such as mother-of-pearl buttons, contrast cross-stitching, a choice of over 150 of the world’s finest fabrics, personalised embroidery, and distinctive collars and cuffs.

Refinery recently spoke with Massimo Guglielmi, Head of Tailoring at Herringbone, to find out more about this fantastic service and what matters most when it comes to your shirts and suits:

What is the common mistake men make when purchasing suits and shirts? Often men try to play too much on the safe side, without experimenting with their look, leading them to buy the same type of shirt or suit over and over again. As for fitting issues, these really depend on the body shape – slim men generally find shirts and jackets loose around the waist, and trousers baggy around the legs; Corpulent men instead find that to fit a shirt or jacket, they need to purchase big sizes, which are too long in length, have shoulder widths too wide and sleeves way too long.

What are the key areas to focus on when choosing a shirt or suit? First and foremost, the fit; secondly, consider what you will use the shirt or suit for; and thirdly, ask yourself if you can actually see yourself wearing it!

What does the process of made-to-measure shirting and suiting involve? Generally tailoring can be quite tedious and lengthy, and not everyone enjoys having to go through several fittings with a tailor. Our service is very simple – all that is required is one initial fitting and after four weeks, the shirt or suit is tailored and returned to Herringbone, ready for collection.

What personalised details does Herringbone made-to-measure shirting and suiting offer? Our made-to-measure shirting service offers luxurious Egyptian Cottons, and sartorial details such as monogram embroidery, choice in collar and cuff, and contrast under-cuff fabrics or button cross-stitching. Unfused collars and cuffs with floating interlinings are standard – part of the expectation in quality for every Herringbone shirt!

Our made-to-measure suiting service offers some of the finest cloths available in the world, supplied by Scabal who manufactures fabrication out of their own mill in England. Our range of over 500 fabrications includes: Merino Wool with thread counts up to Super 160’s, Cashmere, Mohair, Linen, Cotton and Silk. In regards to style details, we offer full customisation, including choice of lining, buttons & under-collar cloths – the sky is the limit!

What is in style for men this winter season when it comes to shirting and suiting? I dress people from all walks of life and requirements are totally different depending upon their background… However, I have to say that generally speaking we are definitely going back to classic and so three-piece suiting is quite common these days. We’re also seeing the return of a Wider Lapel on the jacket and beautiful fabrications – including flannels – for the cooler months.
